Tell us a bit about your career

My career in recruitment spans 13 years (with a two-year hiatus in Argentina) the last six of which have been in agency talent acquisition. My approach to recruitment has always been people-centric. I love making connections and building relationships and derive immense satisfaction in identifying talent and facilitating business development opportunities.

What was it that made you want to join TIMESTWO?

I’ve worked for big corporates, so was excited by the prospect of joining a start-up and being part of something from the beginning. It was also the perfect way for me to use my skills in a new challenge. Joining a startup is often seen as being a bit risky, but there’s no one I trust more in the business world than our founders Mike Beesley and Keith Dawe – their combined track record speaks for itself. And we’re going to have a lot of fun along the way.

Why do you think TIMESTWO is different?

First and foremost, the team. Many of us have worked together previously and we’re all invested in the concept. There is a lot of scope for agility and innovation and I’m excited by the lack of predictability and constraints. We also have huge belief in the fact that what we are offering is of immeasurable value to the UK’s next recruitment entrepreneurs.

What personality traits do you admire most?

I like people with a natural but quiet confidence as this is a sign that they know their worth and can demonstrate their value but don’t need to shout about it. I also like people who don’t take themselves too seriously and exude energy and passion for what they do. Also, a generally happy, positive and friendly demeanor goes a long way!

Which qualities do you think it takes to be a successful recruitment entrepreneur and why?

The ability to make a market – and money – is one thing (and an important one) but it takes much more than being a top biller to build and run a successful business. As well as needing confidence and faith in yourself, it’s important to appreciate that you need support, guidance and a structure around you to make it work. Be humble, look at the bigger picture and accept help. Likeability, honesty and integrity are critical so you can develop ongoing trust with your customers. Patience is a big one too. Relationships take time, foundations need to be laid and built upon. Focus on that and the bottom line will take care of itself.

What are you particularly looking for out of your role?

I’m excited to find hidden gems in the industry on the brink of being a part of the next generation of recruitment entrepreneurs. They’re going to be energetic, enthusiastic, driven individuals that will be inspiring to work with. It will be incredibly rewarding to watch their business grow through our partnership.

Do you have any hidden talents?

As quite a contrast to my business life, I’m also a practicing artist. Art has always been a part of my life from a young age but very much fell to the wayside when I was building my career. I’ve recently created a more flexible working lifestyle for myself, so am now able to spend time in my studio every week and I’m loving every minute of it. It’s great that the business is so supportive of me having a varied schedule. I might even have a couple of my pieces on display in the office one day!

If you had a superpower what would it be?

Teleportation. Can you imagine no more commuting, no sitting in traffic, no outrageously expensive train fares, flight delays, Uber small talk. I could be in the Caribbean at the click of my fingers!
